Lawsuit filed in Texas over Reno plane crash

Posted on November 4th, 2011 No Comments

The first lawsuit concerning the September 16 plane crash in Reno at the National Championship Air Races was recently filed in Texas.  The wrongful death lawsuit was filed by a Texas family on behalf of a spectator who was killed in the crash.

The accident involved a World War II-era plane that had been modified to fly faster.  The plane crashed into a seating area at the competition, injuring at least 74 people and killing 11 people, including its pilot.

The Reno Air Racing Association, the pilot’s family, and a mechanic who worked on the air craft are named as defendants in the $25 million lawsuit.  The suit claims the accident “was the predictable result of a reckless drive for speed by a risk taking pilot and crew, couple with an insatiable drive for profit by those who stood to profit from the show.”
