Fire damages apartment building

Posted on May 20th, 2010 No Comments

A two-story apartment building in Waco was damaged Wednesday morning by a fire.

Neighbors reported the fire after 11 a.m. at 1621 Herring Avenue, warning authorities of smoke and flames coming from the kitchen. They were also successful in alerting the upstairs tenet, allowing him to escape without injury. The downstairs tenets were not home at the outbreak of the fire.

In the interim of finding a new place to live, the American Red Cross’s Heart of Texas chapter arrived Wednesday afternoon, providing the seven displaced people with food, clothing, and temporary shelter at a hotel. Two families lived in the building.

According to investigators, the fire broke out after a space heater malfunctioned while being used to dry some clothes.

While it is fortunate that no one was reported as injured, this fire cost the families great material losses, and potentially could have led to greater disaster. Safety Commission investigates drop-side cribs

Posted on May 10th, 2010 No Comments

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is investigating cribs from different makers to determine if drop-side cribs should be taken off the market due to safety concerns. Many parents use drop-side cribs because the side lowers, and they can more easily access their children. However, the sliding mechanism has been known to malfunction, causing strangulation. Since 2001, 32 children have died as a result of malfunctioning drop-side cribs.

Several companies, like Graco Cribs and C&T International, have recalled several models of their drop-side cribs, bringing the total to seven recalls in the past five years. The Consumer Product Safety Commission encourages parents who use drop-side cribs to find another place for their children to sleep until the situation has been settled.

If a malfunctioning drop-side crib has injured your child, we can help you fight for the compensation you deserve. Contact the Waco child injury attorneys at The Law Offices of Vic Feazell, P.C. today by calling 877-948-4842.
