Last month, Pam Thomas of Beaumont filed a premises liability lawsuit in the Jefferson County District Court against Wal-Mart Stores Texas.  Thomas filed the suit seeking compensation for pain, mental anguish, past and future medical expenses, impairment, disfigurement, lost wages, and court costs after she was injured at the Wal-Mart in Beaumont on Dowlen Road.

In April 2009, Thomas was shopping at the Wal-Mart store when an employee slipped on some spilled liquid in one of the store’s aisles.  As the employee fell, she reached for Thomas’s arm to try to stabilize herself, but pulled Thomas down with her.  Thomas suffered catastrophic injuries in the accident.

Fatal day care fire leads to criminal charges

Posted on Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011 at 4:01 pm

The owner of a day care where four children were killed in a tragic fire is facing charges of reckless injury to a child and child endangerment.  The Houston day care caught fire last Thursday and left three children injured.

Investigators looked into the fire and found that it was caused by a stove’s burner.  In addition, surveillance videos at a nearby Target showed the day care’s owner, Jessica Tata, at the store at the time of the fire.  Police believe that she left the childcare facility to go to Target when the fire started.  The children were left alone.

Police are looking for Tata who is reported to have fled the country to Nigeria.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ family and friends.
