On March 8th, a veteran mail carrier was tragically killed in a porch collapse in Dundee, Michigan.  The mail carrier, 46-year old Nancy Schafer was on the phone with a co-worker when the accident occurred and was able to ask for help.  Sadly, the weight from the porch and concrete underneath the porch sitting on top of her was too great.  Paramedics pronounced Schafer dead an hour after rescuing her.

The accident occurred when Schafer was dropping mail off at a home.  She fell around 8 to 10 feet and materials from the porch and a concrete slab underneath landed on top of her, crushing her chest, and preventing her from being able to breath.  The porch and concrete were estimated to weigh around 500 pounds.
