Super Bowl Sunday this weekend

On Sunday, the New England Patriots will face the New York Giants at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.  This is the second time in four years that these teams have played one another at the Super Bowl.  In 2008, the Giants defeated the Patriots destroying their 18-0 record for that season.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick will be making their fifth Super Bowl appearance together in 11 seasons. The Patriots record this season is 15-3.  They have won 10 consecutive games.  The Giants have a record of 12-7, and recently defeated top-seeded Green Bay Packers and second seeded San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship.

Truck accident on Valley Mills Drive traps driver

A car driving southbound on Valley Mills Drive in Waco was hit by an 18-wheeler truck trapping the driver of the passenger inside the vehicle.

According to police, at 2:15pm on Thursday, the 18-wheeler truck collided into the driver’s side of the Dodge passenger car when it attempted to make a turn from Valley Mills Drive onto Waco Drive.  The driver of the car had to be removed from the vehicle using the jaws of life.  The man was rushed to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.

The driver of the truck and the passenger of the car both did not suffer any injuries.  Details on the driver’s condition were not released.

Cultural Foods and Dances Night in Waco this weekend

The Cultural Foods and Dances Night will bring food from chefs of Texas State Technical College’s culinary department.  Middle Eastern cuisine will be featured, and dance styles such as Turkish, Czech, Russian, Japanese, and Ethiopian will be performed.

Bosnian chef Rajka Jobe stated, “I want to expose them to different things by having them try new foods.”

Two Riesel women died in car crash Saturday morning

Callie Tullos, 23, and Ashleigh Dodd, 24, of Riesel, died on early Saturday morning when Tullos lost control of her vehicle on Surrey Ridge Lane and hit a tree.

At approximately 1:30am Saturday, Tullos was driving with passenger Ashleigh Dodd, 24, also from Riesel, on Surrey Ridge Lane just past the intersection of Buckskin Lane when she veered off the road after losing control of the vehicle and hit a tree.  Tullos was a senior at Baylor University and a graduate of Riesel High School in 2007.  Dodd’s birthday was Saturday, and she graduated from Riesel High School in 2006.

The incident is still under investigation.  Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the victims’ families.

RAM Texas Circuit Rodeo Finals this weekend in Waco

Waco accident leaves two people with injuries

On Monday afternoon, at the intersection of North 6th Street and Waco Drive, an SUV and a passenger car collided.

The incident occurred at 2:15pm on Monday, December 26.  According to authorities, the SUV was trying to cross Waco Drive from North 6th Street and failed to yield the right of way to the oncoming passenger car resulting in a collision.  Both driver were taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.

Toys for Tots at the Baylor basketball game

Tonight, Dec 19, the Marines will collect new, unwrapped toys for the Toys for Tots program at the Baylor Men’s Basketball game.  Admission is free to the game if you donate a toy.  The game will begin at 7pm against Paul Quinn.

Toys for Tots is a program that gives toys to children and is intended to give a sense of hope to becoming “responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.”  For more information, visit the Toys for Tots website.

Accident injures two women at Bosque Blvd and 26 Street

On Monday morning, a car and a pickup truck collided at the intersection of Bosque Boulevard and 26th Street.

According to authorities, the Dodge Ram pickup truck drove east on Bosque Boulevard when it collided with the southbound driver of a Chevrolet Alero on 26th Street.  The accident occurred at 8:30am.

The drivers were both women, and each was driving alone in their vehicles.  They were rushed to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, and fortunately they only suffered minor injuries.

Historic holiday house tours

Waco personal injury lawyers are excited to announce the Christmas on the Brazos Decorated House Museum tours.

The historic house tour features four Waco homes built between 1858-1874 and will hold tours on Dec 10 and 11.  Three homes are located on Fourth Street, and the fourth home is on Martin Luther King Boulevard.

The Holiday Showcase House is a new event that is part of the house tour that features local designers who each decorated a room to showcase their own personal style.  The public will be able to purchase the decorations that are part of the Holiday Showcase House designs.

Hewitt man charged with manslaughter for drunk driving death

On Wednesday, David Michael Martin, 40, of Hewitt, was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter for a car crash in October that killed 2 year old Ivyana Sheppard of Bellmead.

According to police, Martin’s blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit. He was speeding at the time of the accident and crashed his Ford pickup truck at the intersection of Bagby Avenue and Corporation Parkway into a 1985 Chevrolet Caprice driven by David Sheppard, 24, of Beverly Hills.

The Chevrolet caught fire on impact, and a witness rushed Sheppard and the toddler to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center where she later died.
